Your authentication plan should take into account each possible entry point. Network addresses can be assigned differently (via DHCP, for example) to network devices based on their point of entry. An address, when assigned to a network device, is called the source address. Because source addresses can be assigned differently depending on point of entry, you can effectively control network access based on it. For example, if a user dials into the network and he or she is assigned an address (a source address) in a certain address range, then you can restrict users within that address range so that they may be allowed to access only particular applications in the network, not all of them. You achieve this by filtering out network packets with addresses in that range for those applications they should not be allowed to get near. Such filters can be configured within your network routers, for example. Note that this is not a strong form of authentication, but it is, instead, a good example of how your standard authentication mechanism and address filtering can be combined to make it harder for a hacker to reach deeper into your network. Deploy technologies such as SSL, SSH, and IPSec, as well as more advanced authentication protocols, to improve security. As discussed in 2, many people have a false sense of security about how well protected their passwords are when sent over the network. You should know better by now. Don t authenticate just people. Your authentication plan should, of course, identify how individuals are authenticated for access to network

Access sorts the Group record fields automatically in an order that helps the grouping make sense. The additional sorting fields specify fields to be sorted in the detail section. In this example, Access is already sorting the data by Customer Name in the group section. As Figure 10-10 shows, the data is also to be sorted by Pet Name so that the pets appear in alphabetical order in the detail section. The sort fields are selected by the same method that is used for grouping fields in the report. You can select fields that you have not already chosen to group and use these as sorting fields. The fields chosen in this dialog box do not affect grouping; they affect only the sorting order in the detail section fields. You can determine whether the order is ascending or descending by clicking the button to the right of each sort field, which toggles between Ascending and Descending.

After the pseudowire is established between both PE routers and the status codes of the pseudowires are both clear (all zero), the service is ready to forward the traffic. Where there is a status change in a PE router s service instance (SAP down, or service instance down), the PE router sends LDP Notification messages to notify the far-end router of the failure. The far-end router sets the Peer PW Bits flag in the pseudowire and stops sending traffic over the pseudowire until the failure is removed. When the pseudowire is administratively disabled (shutdown command executed in the pseudowire configuration in the service instance), the local PE router uses the LDP Label Withdraw message to remove the label-mapping; the remote PE router confirms this by sending the LDP Label Release message.
